What a nice week! We especially enjoyed our field trip to the Beavercreek Wetlands today. The students observed wildlife like a deer and a blue heron, found spider webs and a bird's nest, did a stream study and searched for and found macroinvertebrates. They especially had fun mucking in the creek.
We are moving along in math. The students are multiplying by two-digit numbers. They are learning the why behind the algorithm. Of course the goal is to use the algorithm accurately and efficiently, but understanding the conceptual part of multiplication is key to understanding more complicated mathematical equations. We will work on multiplication for several days and then the emphasis will be on long division.
The students have been enjoying the online programs we are using here at school. They are IXL for math and language arts skills, Xtra Math for basic math facts, and Keyboarding Without Tears for keyboarding skills. All these programs can be accessed at home if your child would like. Each student should be able to access them independently; however, if your child is having trouble let us know.
The lower school is once again participating in the Trick-or-Treat for Unicef campaign. We hope to raise as much money as we can to help children from around the globe. Unicef boxes are being sent home with the children. Students are encouraged to take the collection box along when going trick-or-treating and gather as much money as possible. All collection boxes are to be returned to school no later than Thursday, November 3.
We are looking forward to meeting with you at conferences on Thursday and Friday. If you haven't signed up, click here. To help us prepare for your child's conference, you will find a short pre conference questionnaire in your child's friday folder. We would appreciate it if you could fill it out and send it to school with your child by next Wednesday.
