Dear Parents,

We sure have enjoyed the warm weather this week. Your children are diligent workers who enjoy the topics we're studying in class.

This week in math, we took the chapter 2 test and spent time reviewing it. Students are working on the cumulative review over chapters 1 and 2 in class as well as getting ready to start chapter 3, which focuses on multiplication and division of larger numbers. A good portion of the chapter will also be spent on word problems.

The next topic is social studies is Ohio's prehistoric people. There is an emphasis on archeology, which we will explore with hands-on activities in our classrooms and in science.

The focus in reading is the strategy of inference. Good readers are thinkers, and they often observe, question, and infer. We are practicing these skills in class through whole class lessons, small group work, and independent reflections in the students' lit logs. Most of the written work that accompanies our reading is done at school; however, students are encouraged to read for 10-15 minutes each evening.

It will soon be time to schedule your child's conference. Conferences will be held from 3:30 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20 and 8:00 a.m. to noon on Friday, October 21. You can sign up for a time through Pick-A-Time.com by clicking HERE. The scheduler will be open from midnight on October 10 until 10:00 p.m. on October 18. We are looking forward to meeting with each of you!

Senora Swift has updated her Spanish blog and asked that we pass the link onto you . It's http://bienvenidosalsspanish.blogspot.com/.

Have a great weekend!
